Sunday 21st June Day 34
Not sure if we are right or not but given the time we have before we board the ferry, the places we want to go to and that we are also going to see Barb’s cousin who lives just outside of Dublin have made up our minds to scoot through NI and head over to Ireland’s east coast and leave NI for a future trip. We have planned a route and we will call into a couple of towns on our way across to Ireland east coast. Unless I can come up with some junk this was going to be a short one as it’s a bit of a driving day, as with a lot of our mornings we weren’t ready to leave the site until the throwing off time, hey at £35 we are making the most of our stay on the site. Our first stop was Armagh, as we drove in there was a queue of traffic trying to get into a retail park, this didn’t bode well as that was the last place we wanted to be on a Sunday afternoon but unfortunately we did need to get some milk and stuff, well this about as good as an idea as going to Costco at the weekend, the world and his with were there. We finally escaped and headed into the town which was pretty similar and with nowhere to park, this was not the place to be on a Sunday afternoon, we had one more stop on our way to the freebie stopover that Barb has found and we headed to Dundalk, on the way there we had a thought that as Dundalk was a bigger town it might be the same as Armagh but with even more chaos and it was only a couple of miles from the stopover we would give it a miss today and go on Monday when it might be a bit quieter. Also the sun was out and it was a beautiful day and we haven’t had many of those so we headed straight to the stopover to enjoy the rest of the day, the stopover was a large car park overlooking Dundalk bay, when we arrived you could have been forgiven to think this was an actual site as there were more than 30 motorvans and caravans parked up. We found a spot that had a view of the bay and hey it was level well level enough, that was it chairs out and kettle on and sit outside in the long awaited sunshine,after speaking to a couple of people it turns out that most of the people here are fairly local and often come here for the weekend and were right as by 6pm there was us and about 5 other vans. Not much else happened other than we had a walk to the quay and then up to local Caravan site to have a look at the pizza take away that we have been told about, oh and there is also a bar with live music playing, so it would be rude not to pop in and listen to the band while helping the local economy by purchasing a couple of products from the bar. Now I said listen to the band which wasn’t that difficult as it was only a small venue and the duo had the Amp turned up as high as they would go without blowing the thingies out of the large speakers, they were that loud we went outside to listen to them and unfortunately they were not that good. We made headed back hand in hand at the edge of the sand and danced to the light of the moon, that’s not really true as that line is part of a poem from 1870 by Edward Lear, we sat outside chatting about what to do next without coming to real conclusion and that was about it for the night, what to do next will have to be figured out tomorrow.
